About the MWU Alumni Senate
Primary care practitioners treat patients with a wide array of acute and chronic conditions. These health providers are continually working to improve and enhance the types of services they are able to provide to their patients.
This symposium will focus on current social media trends that can be utilized by primary care practitioners to better manage their practices. It will also discuss updates on prevalent clinical conditions to allow providers to better treat their patients. The course will provide a review of recent findings in the area of diabetes, from the perspective of podiatric medicine and optometry. The course will also discuss the latest trends in social media and the use of smartphone and tablet applications for patient education. The program will conclude with an interprofessional case presentation, which will highlight the team approach to health care.
Additionally, an BLS/ACLS renewal course will be presented.
This program is designed to provide interdisciplinary continuing education for primary care providers in order to better understand the application of new technology to current practice and to update their knowledge of prevalent clinical conditions.

The goal of the symposium is to enhance the ability of primary care practitioners to utilize social media and to understand common medical conditions. This outcome will be measured through pre- and post-symposium surveys that highlight changes in the practitioner's behavior that focuses on improved treatment outcomes for patients. Specifically, participants will be asked to track increased use of social media in marketing their practices and the use of new technology to treat their patients. Participants will also challenged about their understanding of common disease presentations and asked to identify any modifications in treatment plans based on their updated understanding of these conditions.
This interdisciplinary event is made possible with the support of the Midwestern University Alumni Senate. Through various programs, events, and networking opportunities, the Senate aims to create a sense of connection and pride in Midwestern University among all of its alumni and facilitate collaboration between the various colleges and program alumni associations.
