Today on the Downers Grove campus, we held the annual Health Sciences Day for High Schools.
I had CPR training today. I held the certificate previously from 2007-2009 and failed to get recertified last year. It was very important for me to keep my certificate...
After several months of ground preparation and foundation work, the shape of Science Hall is finally rising over the campus.
Upcoming Events on the Downers Grove Campus
Last week, I traveled on behalf of MWU to our nation's capital to attend the annual conference of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). I was able to network with other academic administrators, hear from Washington influence leaders, and visit with our legislators. I also took the time to take in a few sights.
This evening, January 22nd, the Student Senate held the ever popular annual Unification Celebration in the Campus Recreation Gym.
MWU alumni are an accomplished group. We read about then in our local newspapers and encounter them in our daily work and personal lives. And, always, it is an honor and pleasure to know them.
Today, the employees on the Downers Grove Campus that participated in a Health Assessment Campaign were treated to a healthy breakfast in the now under-construction Student Dining Room of The Commons.
Just a quick weather update for those of you not in the Midwest; there is a ton of snow. I think about two inches. It's made driving to work pretty nasty, but campus is sure pretty. All the students are bundled as they walk across campus.
I've declared my motto to be "No More Excuses 2010". As everyone does each start of a new year, we vow to make certain changes in our lives.
As the year draws to a close, I wanted to take a brief minute in my blog to thank my wonderful team for all they do to make Midwestern University such a special place. These are the staff you--our alumni, prospective students, applicants, the media, and the general public--are most likely to encounter at the University. And they make me very proud each and every day.
Midwestern University celebrates the holiday season
The holidays mark a time in the winter season when we wait for the first snowfall in IL, baking of holiday cookies, and the holiday luncheon for employees.
This past week, I spent several days at the annual CASE V (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) conference that was held in downtown Chicago. It also marked my first year as a volunteer for the conference; and I must say I really like it!
On Tuesday, December 9th, the Downers Grove Campus held, on a snowy winter evening, a holiday reception.
From the Halloween revelers on Bourbon Street to the physician educators in the convention center, New Orleans was the place to be this week for the 2009 American Osteopathic Association Convention. Many MWU students, alumni, faculty, and staff visited the Big Easy to participate in the many activities.
Last Friday, more than 700 first-year students from the Glendale Campus received their white coats. A painting helped to tell their story.
A few weeks ago, the Office of Development & Alumni Relations launched the We're MWU Proud Campaign at both of our campuses. This effort has two goals: to promote team spirit and morale on campus and to provide opportunities for MWU employees to financially support scholarships, campus beautification, or areas of greatest need. Halfway through the campaign, it is clear that we have been successful in achieving both.
On Saturday, MWU's Glendale Campus hosted the annual American Diabetes Association Stepping Out for Diabetes Walk. About 1,000 people gathered on our campus for one of only two twilight ADA walks in the country. I was honored to be one of the walkers on Team MWU.
Last Friday, the White Coat Ceremony was held for the first-year students on the Downers Grove Campus. Nearly a packed house of family, friends, faculty, and students gathered for this annual rite of passage.
