Last night, the Downers Grove Campus hosted the annual fall open house to over 150 people interested in a career in health care.
All the guests were welcomed to an exhibit-style display of the seven programs offered at Midwestern University by program representatives. The representatives were from the medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, biomedicial sciences and clinical psychology. Guests learned information on the admission prerequisites, curriculum, graduation requirements, and etc., on the programs.
Guests also received tours led by current students of the academic and student life buildings.
As I watched the crowds of people gather at the booths of their program of
interest, I recognized a face. It was the face of one of my high school gym teachers. She was attending the open house with her daughter who was interested in our Occupational Therapy Program. As we stood in the atrium making small talk, I looked around at the many other people that were interested in Midwestern University. I suddenly was overcome with unexplainable emotions. These emotions were a mix of joy, joy that so many people were interested in embarking in a career of service to others health. And enthusiasm, enthusiatic for these people that will soon take the next step to applying to a program and beginning the journey to a career in health care.
It would only be the following day, when Midwestern University would hold the annual White Coat Ceremony for the first year class. A group of students who only years ago stood in this very same atrium learning about the university's programs.
And I say to those that attended the Open House, see you next fall.
