Several weeks back, the newest academic building on the Downers Grove Campus, Science Hall, was dedicated before the community, alumni, and staff. The August 30th affair brought a board, Representative Peter Roskam of the 16th Congressional District, Senator Ron Sandack, & Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully to campus. Dr. Kathleen H. Goeppinger welcomed each to take the podium and address the nearly 200 guests in attendance. Each speaker had one thing in common to say, they all remarked about the growth of Midwestern University and it's tremendous impact on health care.
The addition of Science Hall brings home to the university's newest college, College of Dental Medicine-Illinois (CDMI), which matriculated its first class of 130 students this September. Also located in Science Hall, is the CDMI Clinical Simulation Laboratory. This lab holds 136 student stations and one presentation station, all equipped with a simulator and related dental instrumentation as well as personal 19" display monitors for instruction.
Science Hall is a technology-rich, high-energy efficient building that is controlled by a Building Automation System which controls the temperatures in occupied and unoccupied spaces. High energy efficient lighting is also occupied and unoccupied controlled. In addition, high-energy efficient glass was used on the exterior of the building.
