With the annual Groovin' in the Grove 5K Run and Fun Walk just days away, I've evaluated that both my body and my finish time will not be on par as last year's 38:43 time.
On the Illinois Campus, Midwestern University hosts a great community event during the weekend of Mother's Day. The Office of Campus Recreation and the MWU Running Club convert the campus and the nearby neighborhood into an intense and hilly 5K path.
And with the help of many of the Midwestern University programs, stations are set-up for Osteopathic Manipulation Medicine (OMM) and physical therapy treatment.
There is a lot of student involvement, with helping during registration, set-up up the refreshments, facilitating the Lil' Groovers 1K race for smaller children, and my favorite part the assistance of passing flowers to all mothers participating in the race. Kathleen H. Goeppinger, President & CEO, stands at the finish line and congratulates all mothers as the cross. I wonder if she'll accept a sweaty embrace this year.
Well I've spent most of this week running on the treadmill in the Wellness/Recreation Hall trying to improve on my time. Hopefully, I stand a chance. But hey, I've been invited to run the actual path today during lunch with two super-duper runners. If you don't hear from me on my post Groovin' blog, I did make it.
Wish me luck!
