Upcoming Events on the Downers Grove Campus

Posted February 22, 2010

This morning I came into work, fresh from a beautiful view from my car of the fresh snowfall covering most of the Chicagoland area, if not all. There is something about spinning around and seeing everything covered in white. It is such a beautiful thing; until I remembered the upcoming events that are being held on the Downers Grove campus in the next couple of weeks.

On March 2nd, Midwestern University will be hosting the annual Health Sciences Career Day for High Schools. This event, very popular for it hands-on workshop style of presenting to area high schools of our offerings of health care disciplines, is also offered on the Glendale, Arizona campus.

The snow as pretty as it is, can be an additional character to the story on life as a Midwestern University student. The visiting high school students are able to experience first hand the gross anatomy lab, the pharmacy compounding lab and exercises in physical therapy, occupational therapy, biomedical sciences, clinical psychology, and physician assistant studies.

It's so much fun and well received, that we are only able to accept 100 students for participation from a possible 200+ applied.

And as I continue to research ways to make the high school event bigger and better, on Friday, March 5th, the students of the Chicago College of Pharmacy will graduate. Nearly 150 students will receive their Pharm.D. degrees and embark in a career of advising patients, physicians and other health care practioners on prescription drugs.

You know, as I think about it, both the events take place in a season when we prepare for the arrival of spring. With spring, comes the rebirth and bloom of life and color. These two events represent many of these same principles; perhaps the blossom in a high school student a career in health care because of his experience at our event and the pharmacy graduates growth and development in their field.
