My Days as a Stand-In

Posted November 15, 2011

As some of you may know, we recently wrapped a photo shoot on the Downers Grove Campus to update our marketing photos arsenal. As I have said in the past, photo shoots are definetely the funnest part of my job because I get to meet many students and facutly that I otherwise wouldn't get to interact with. I also learn a little bit about each program or college, and I'm always interested to see what topics the students are covering. In some cases, (especially with the Dental students/faculty) it allows me to quizz them with my personal questions.

This photo shoot was particularly memorable because it's the first time that we photographed Science Hall. It is a beautiful new building, and we got some great shots of the Dental Sim Lab, the OMM Lab, and Dr. Green's research lab, to name a few. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the faculty who allowed us to photograph their classes, the staff who helped coordinate the shoots, and the students who graciously allowed us to photograph them. I know how uncomfortable it can be in front of the camera, and you all did an amazing job!

Now, although photo shoots are a blast, there is some pain involved. (Not really pain, just mild discomfort for those timid of the camera). For instance, when we begin setting-up a shot, I'm typically the stand-in as the student until we get the lighting and the scene just right, and I have to admit it is a little nervewracking being in front of the camera. That's why I truly admire everyone who did allow us to photograph them. It's not easy looking pretty!!
