Prospective students and applicants often ask what the "typical" activities are on campus. To be honest, not being a student, I hardly ever attend any of our student events. However, I do get a daily email from our Office of Student Services in Downers Grove listing the happenings for the week. Some of them look pretty interesting.
Here are the highlights:
- On Monday night, there's a free showing of the movie "Talk to Me" in Redwoods Hall
- Last week was Osteopathic Awareness Week on campus, which featured presentations, quizzes and candy, and OMM demonstrations
- The PT students are conducting a gym/walking shoe donation drive for the Hesed House Homeless Shelter
- The MWU Choir is rehearsing on Thursday
- A staff member is hoping to form an MWU team for the Relay for Life event, to raise funds for cancer research
- Phi Lambda Sigma is selling Valentine's Day candy-grams
- Students are conducting a "Mr. Midwestern" contest to raise funds for the American Heart Association
- Students are being asked to volunteer for Oral Health America's annual Chicago gala
- The Office of Student Services is sponsoring a presentation entitled, "How to Succeed in Professional School: Study Skills for Success"
- CCOM students are planning to attend "Osteopathic Physicians Day at the State Capitol" in March
- A guest speaker will discuss "The Headache" for the Society for Teaching and Inspiring Lifelong Learning in Osteopathic Medicine
- Applications are available for the Illinois Association of Family Practice Summer Externship, the Betty Ford Center Summer Institute, and AACOM's Arnstein Minority Student Scholarship
- Intramural groups are forming for spring seasons of 3-on-3 soccer, 6-on-6 dodgeball, volleyball, and racquetball
- The Undergraduate American Academy of Osteopathy is hosting OMM review sessions for winter finals
- The CCP Executive Student Council is meeting on Wednesday
Clearly, there is something for everyone at MWU. And, now that I've studied this list a little more closely, I may have to check out the "Mr. Midwestern" contest this year. What the heck--it's for charity!
Have a great weekend and stay warm!
