Yesterday, Midwestern University helds its fourth annual "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" alumni event at the Arizona Diamondbacks vs Chicago Cubs game at Chase Field in Phoenix. More than 150 alumni, faculty, and students attended the popular event. And, for the fourth time in a row, the Cubs lost the game.
I, admittedly, am a Cubs fan, and despite the divided loyalties between my two hometown teams, I was unabashedly cheering for the Cubs. They started off with 3 quick runs in the first inning, but gave away 5 in the next two innings, and their lone run in the third wasn't enough. It was a close defeat at 5-4, but a loss nonetheless.

Judging by the attire won by the MWU crowd at the game, the Cubs vs Diamondbacks rivalry is alive and well. In fact, the entire stadium seemed about equally divided between the two teams. MWU hosted this event in the left field picnic area, where guests enjoyed snacks, beverages, and the chance to network with fellow alumni and students. Our alumni from both campuses and all colleges who live in the Phoenix area are invited to this event and encouraged to bring their families.

Because of the timing of this year's game, incoming students were also invited to participate as the concluding event of new student orientation. The game provided one last celebration before the first day of classes today at the Glendale Campus.

Despite the loss, the Cubs still have a narrow grip on first place in their division, as do the Diamondbacks. With any luck, both teams will make it to the playoffs this year. Beyond that goal, however, I'm not getting my hopes up or saving for World's Series tickets.
