Cubs Lose Again at MWU Alumni Game

Posted April 29, 2009

For the fifth or sixth year in a row (we've lost count), the Cubs have lost to the Diamondbacks at the annual Midwestern University Alumni Baseball Outing at Chase Field in Phoenix by a score of 7 to 2. This is great news for the hometown Arizona fans, but troubling for the legions of Cubs fans who reside in the Valley. Despite which team you were cheering for, the event was a hit to all the MWU alumni, students, faculty, and staff who attended.

The MWU Picnic Area was sold out again for this popular event. Guests were treated to an all-you-can-eat buffet of hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, chips, and soda. Alumni and students gathered around picnic tables in the left field seating area for networking and eating. They were also able to sit in the bleacher section to get another view of the game.

Hedging my bets

As a resident of both Phoenix and Chicago, I decided not to truly "choose" teams this year. I wore my Diamondbacks jersey but had a Cubs t-shirt underneath. Yes, the Cubs are closer to my heart, but I had a feeling the Dbacks were going to win on their home field.

Once again, the curse of the Cubs has extended to this MWU alumni game. Well, there's always next year!
