MWU Adopts New Mission and Vision

Posted October 18, 2007

MWU President Kathleen Goeppinger, Ph.D., led the effort to update and enhance the University's mission statement as a result of the accreditation team's work. The new Mission recognizes that MWU is committed to health care education, as the word "health care" was formally added to the language. The new Vision encompasses the specific goals that the University strives to achieve. Dr. G presented the new Mission and Vision to the entire University community at a Town Hall Meeting, and the new language was adopted by the Board of Trustees at its recent September meeting.

Now in our second century of providing quality and compassionate health care education, this new Mission and Vision reflect our academic community well and give all of us significant values to uphold.

Mission
Midwestern University's historical and sustaining philosophy dedicates the institution and its resources to the highest standards of academic excellence to meet the educational needs of the health care community.

Vision
Midwestern University will provide a safe and healthy environment that challenges its faculty, staff, and students to:

  • Promote and maintain the osteopathic philosophy
  • Nourish intellectual creativity and foster the critical thinking and communication skills that stimulate personal growth and engender professional development
  • Support the teaching, scholarly activity, and service capabilities of the University
  • Respect, appreciate, and acknowledge the achievements of all members of the academic community
  • Embrace cultural and social diversity in the academic community and the community-at-large
