Last Friday, MWU hosted its annual Downers Grove Golf Classic to raise funds for student scholarships. Nearly 100 golfers joined us for a hot but fun day on the links. And my team won second place!

Golf outings are a great way for MWU to raise funds for student scholarships while also giving us the opportunity to spend time with our sponsors and alumni. The Presenting Sponsor was Chanen Construction Company, who representatives joined Dr. G and Dr. Dobbelaere's foursome. The Title Sponsors were McGuire Woods LLP and RBC Capital Markets, while the Eagle Sponsor was Humana. A total of 31 additional companies and individuals provided sponsorship support, contributing to more than $25,000 in proceeds going to support student scholarships.

CCOM student Philip Huang participated in the outing and also spoke at the awards luncheon, thanking the sponsors for their financial donations and emphasizing how important these gifts are for students. Several prizes were awarded, including longest drive, closest to the pin, and the winning foursomes. I am happy to say that my foursome, which included Dr. John Burdick (MWU Dean of Basic Science and VP of Clinic Operations), Mark Styles (Morgan Stanley), and Rich Frawley (Precise Printing Network), finished in second place. I am very proud of my crystal golf ball trophy, which is now displayed prominently on my desk! The winning team was Jim Hill and Terry Baker of Chanen and third place went to CCOM alumnus Dr. George Caleel and his team.

The event concluded with a raffle prize drawing led by our academic deans and VPs. My lucky streak continued as I won a wine tasting for 10. Other prizes included a big screen TV, restaurant certificates, hotel packages, and other great gifts.
So, despite the 90-degree heat, the event went off without a hitch and was a great time for friends and supporters of MWU to spend a Friday on the golf course. Thanks to Connie Schaible for the photos, and to Barb, Damienne, Lois, Helen, Lisa, and Rosemary for helping to coordinate all the details for the Office of Development & Alumni Relations. And, after all, the real winners are the MWU students who will benefit from these scholarship funds as well as knowing there is a great community out there supporting them.
