Science Hall Rises Over the Campus

Posted February 22, 2010

After several months of ground preparation and foundation work, the shape of Science Hall can finally be seen rising over the campus. The five-story building will be the largest facility on the Downers Grove Campus, and is slated for completion in Spring 2011.

Crane and beams outline the new building

Science Hall will be the academic home of the basic science faculty, including the gross anatomy lab, faculty offices and labs, and other research areas. Additionally, the new College of Dental Medicine-Illinois will have classrooms, the dental simulation laboratory, and faculty offices. A large osteopathic manipulation laboratory will be housed here, as well as conference rooms and a large testing center.

When completed, this facility will become an important academic hub of the campus. For that reason, it is fitting that is occupies a central location on the campus, in proximity to Alumni Hall, Centennial Hall, and Littlejohn Hall--forming an academic quad near the administrative building of Haspel/Hambrick Hall.

You can also see from the photo that Downers Grove got a beautiful snowfall last night. While the snow is wet and heavy, the scene of white-covered tree branches across our heavily wooded campus is quite incredible. All of us on campus are looking forward to watching Science Hall as it continues to rise over our campus during the next year. Much work remains on what will surely be one of the most impressive buildings at Midwestern University.
