My parents and friends are convinced that I have it easy in the summer since I work at a school. While I would certainly like to slow down the pace in June, July, and August, that isn't necessarily the case at MWU. Actually, our campuses remain fairly bustling throughout the warm months.
In Admissions, we continue to monitor our incoming classes for CCOM and AZCOM starting in August and CCP, CDM, and CHS programs starting in the Fall. While nearly all the classes are "filled," we maintain contact with the new students so they are ready for orientation or in case their plans change. This is also a time when we reevaluation our admissions processes for the last year, determine interview schedules for the coming year, and get ready for the recruitment season in the Fall.
Over in Communications, we continue to update our web site with information for the 2009-2010 admissions cycle. We are also "tweaking" the new site to make sure the navigation is working as planned and the content is kept up-to-date. We are putting the finishing touches on the next edition of the MWU Magazine, and preparing invitations and programs for upcoming events. We have evaluated the past year's Graduations and White Coat Ceremonies, and are planning for improvements in the coming year. We are also making sure we have our recruitment publications updated and ready to print.
In the Development & Alumni Relations area, we have a few receptions and other events over the summer months. We have launched our annual fund campaign for alumni, and are planning a faculty/staff campaign on our campuses for September. This is also a good time for the staff to reevaluate the past year and plan for the coming cycle of conferences and meetings and receptions. We work very hard to attend as many events around the country as possible, where we can meet with our alumni in person and keep them connected to MWU.
Construction is underway at both campuses. In Glendale, work is continuing on the MWU Dental Clinic and MWU Eye Institute as well as the Interfaith Chapel. In Downers Grove, the new Basic Science Building is starting to take shape. Both campuses are also in full bloom, and our facilities and ground staff are hard at work to make sure our landscaping and buildings are in top condition.
Finally, the academics never stops at MWU. In Downers, our PA and PT students have started their programs in the summer, as have the CPG, PA, nurse anesthesia, and perfusion students in Glendale. Many medical and pharmacy students are on campus as part of the summer research program or at their clinical rotation sites.
So, as you can see, things are still happening at MWU in the summer. It is a great time to visit our campuses and meet with Admissions, if you are hoping to apply for the next admissions cycle.
