AZ/IL: AOA Honors Faculty, Students, Alums with Awards and Appointments

The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) bestowed several honors and appointments on members of the Midwestern University community at its annual business meeting in July. In addition to naming Karen J. Nichols, D.O., F.A.C.O.I., M.A., Dean of the Chicago College of Medicine (CCOM) and Professor of Internal Medicine, President-Elect of the AOA, the association announced the following awards, appointments, and scholarships:

• George Caleel, D.O., Vice President of Clinical Education, received the AOA Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor given in the profession.
• Teresa Hubka, D.O., FACOG, Chair and Residency Program Director of Obstetrics & Gynecology at CCOM, was elected President of the American Osteopathic Foundation, and is the first woman to hold that position.
• Nicki Ottens, D.O., (CCOM 2005), OGME-V resident in family medicine and emergency medicine at St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields, was elected to be the Resident Representative on the AOA Board of Trustees.
• Cory Maughan, MS-IV (AZCOM), was elected to be the Student Representative on the AOA Board of Trustees.
• Kerri Kulovitz, MS-V (CCOM), an Osteopathic Medicine Fellow, was selected to receive the AOA Presidential Memorial Scholarship.
