Physician Assistant Studies in Downers Grove

Midwestern University Physician Assistant (PA) students become outstanding physician assistants: 100% of our Class of 2011 graduates passed the examination on their first attempt, compared to a 91% 2011 nationwide pass rate for all first-time takers. Our graduates practice across the United States and abroad in a wide variety of specialties. Approximately 35% of those responding to the Class of 2011 graduate survey practice in primary care, another 48% practice in emergency medicine or medical subspecialties, and approximately 17% practice in general surgery or surgical subspecialties. The average reported annual starting salary of the graduates of the Class of 2011 is $78,500.

Our rigorous physician assistant program includes education in the basic sciences, clinical medicine, physical examination, evidence-based practice, and professional issues. The clinical training component includes core rotations in surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, behavioral medicine, family medicine, geriatric medicine, pediatric medicine, and women's health, and elective rotations in a variety of specialties and diverse settings.

The PA Program faculty closely follow the academic and professional development of each student throughout his or her time at Midwestern University. In addition, PA faculty continue to serve as mentors and provide professional references long after students graduate from the Program. Many of our more than 1,300 alumni remain active in the PA Program as core faculty, small group leaders, guest lecturers, and clinical training preceptors. The PA Program promotes community service and participation in professional leadership opportunities, and strives to create compassionate providers who will be life-long learners and provide excellent medical care throughout their careers.
