Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy (CCP) fosters lifelong learning through excellence in education, postgraduate programs, and scholarship. The College encourages the development of professional attitudes and behaviors to prepare pharmacists who will provide exemplary patient-centered care in a culturally diverse society.

The Chicago College of Pharmacy embraces the values of learning and discovery, excellence, professionalism, and collegiality in everything that we do: teaching, patient care, research, and service.

In 2011, the Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy (CCP) will proudly celebrate our 20th anniversary. Since our founding in 1991, the College has experienced remarkable growth and development. This anniversary celebration is to not only reflect on the past, but to look strategically to the future.

So much as happened in the last twenty years.  Faculty have received national recognition and honors, made discoveries and filed patents, developed innovative clinical services, and every day they teach students how to use their knowledge and skills to care for patients.  I am so proud of our faculty, our students and our alumni.  Together, we are making a difference in the lives of the patients we serve.  What a remarkable twenty years!

Please see our list of funding priorities and giving opportunities that will truly help the College achieve its mission. Contact Lisa Hellman, Manager of Development, regarding your interest in supporting the future of our College. Please consider this opportunity and let us know how we can continue to partner together to build pharmacy's future.

You Always Wanted To Make A Difference.

Twenty years ago, Midwestern University founded the Chicago College of Pharmacy. Since then, nearly 2,500 students have graduated from the program and are now doing what they do best, taking care of patients. This year, we will honor the College's anniversary with a series of events and celebrations. We hope to see each and every one of our alumni sometime during the anniversary year. In honor of this momentous occasion, we have developed a CCP 20TH ANNIVERSARY ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP FUND. This fund will help:

SUPPORT deserving students. By reaching our goal of $25,000, we will be able to provide generous scholarships every year in perpetuity.
BUILD a strong connection between alumni and students. As alumni you have an opportunity to deepen your sense of pride for your college.
CONNECT students with our knowledgeable faculty who can help them develop the skills and professionalism necessary to care for patients. Our faculty members receive national recognition and honors, make discoveries and file patents, and develop innovative clinical services.
SHAPE the College's mission by encouraging the development of professional attitudes and behaviors to prepare pharmacists who will provide exemplary patient-centered care in a culturally diverse society.

Please consider a gift to this scholarship fund so you can make a difference to our students' future. With the collective power of thousands of alumni, we will ensure a continued strong Chicago College of Pharmacy experience.

I received my B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and Pharm.D. from Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy (MWU). After owning an independent pharmacy for many years, I transitioned into corporate pharmacy practice as Director of Pharmacy for Dominick's Finer Foods (a division of Safeway) where I implemented many patient care programs and initiatives.

Today, I am serving as the Manager of Immunization Clinical Services for Walgreens. My current area of responsibility includes developing and implementing pharmacist delivered immunization services. I also hold an adjunct faculty positions at UIC and MWU. I serve the college advisory committees for MWU and have served as Chair of the Administration Section of the APhA-Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management. Currently I am serving as co-chair of APhA's taskforce on Immunization and Medication Administration. Currently I am on on the Board of Directors of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and a founding member of the Illinois Affiliate of Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. I have been recognized nationally for my role in bringing pharmaceutical care to the forefront of community pharmacy. Dr. Ed Cohen '00

I am a Regional Clinical Executive at Abbott Laboratories providing clinical expertise, evidence-based medicine and health economics & outcomes research (HEOR) across the managed care environment for all marketed products in the areas of immunology, virology, cardiovascular & metabolic, endocrinology and oncology. Additionally, I have teaching responsibilities as an appointed Adjunct Professor at Loyola University Chicago where I began an Introduction to Pharmacology course for students. Furthermore, I am also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Chicago College of Pharmacy where I also precept students. On a part-time basis, I also do freelance medical articles for an online health website and occasionally work as a registered pharmacist for a major retail pharmacy chain. I serve as an Editorial Advisory Board Member for the publication Managed Healthcare Executive.

It is without a single hesitation that I can say none of what I have achieved thus far in my professional career would have been possible without the education I obtained from Midwestern University (CCP) along with the relentless care and motivation that all faculty and administration portrayed while I was a student. Although it may be fairly easy for an ...individual to say that everything needed to succeed is taught from notes, power points and lectures....I would beg to highly differ and say that the foundational instruction and loyalty of faculty and administration to students at CCP is truly what allows them to succeed and will continue to allow them to succeed and develop leaders in healthcare for generations to come. Dr. Paul Setlak '06.

It is with certainty that my education at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy paved the road to my current successes. It is through my pursuit of the PharmD degree that I began to interact with the Office of Experiential Education and sought a position with MWU-CCP prior to graduation!

The experience and exposure gained in the OEE office of MWU -CCP, laid the foundation which led me to my current position as the Coordinator of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy. I am also certified as a geriatric pharmacy specialist, which I pursed while matriculating at CCP, with additional professional experience in community and hospital settings. Currently, I am an advisory member of GJM Home Health Agency and the Early Stage Committee Alzheimer's Association - Greater Illinois Chapter. I am also a member of several organizations, including the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, where I was the previous CSU Chapter Advisor and American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, where I am a board member of the Illinois Chapter and current CSU Chapter Advisor.

Again, it was not easy returning to school after years in the practice setting to obtain a PharmD degree. Yet, the faculty provided support and guidance beyond the lectures and "Blackboard" handouts. I have met several wonderful contacts that remain available and continue to guide me today. For this I am extremely grateful! Dr. Angela C. Riley '08

Since graduating Midwestern University (Class of 2007), I completed my PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. I further pursued and completed a PGY2 residency specializing in infectious diseases at Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy with my practice site at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. I am currently practicing as an infectious diseases clinical pharmacy specialist at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas, Texas but will soon be transitioning to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois as an infectious diseases clinical specialist as well starting January 2011.

As you can see, Midwestern and its faculty had largely influenced my career and career goals, especially since I came back to my alma mater to complete my PGY2 residency as the second ID resident of a new program. As a PGY2 resident and participating in the Teaching and Learning Curriculum, it was a learning experience trying to understand what I liked/disliked in pharmacy school and applying those same aspects to my teaching and precepting skills. The strong support system and the numerous outlets for guidance (especially for students pursuing clinical residencies) supplied by the faculty members helped me greatly in preparing for residency interviews, developing a curriculum vitae, and organizing my timeline for Midyear. The advice and guidance I received from them during pharmacy school is the same advice I give to my students and pharmacy residents and is the same advice I carry with me today when interviewing for jobs. Dr. Sharon Sam '07

Currently, I am serving on active duty in the United States Army. I am serving as the Chief of a community pharmacy that provides pharmaceutical care to around 1000 active duty service members, retirees, and family members on a daily basis. I am also attending a university at night to complete my master's of business administration with an emphasis in healthcare administration. In February, I will be deploying with a combat support hospital to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In Afghanistan, I will be providing pharmaceutical services in support of the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen defending our country.

The demands of being a pharmacist in the United States Army have been extremely arduous. Midwestern University (CCP)'s dedication to developing well rounded professionals from both a clinical and leadership perspective has given me the tools I have needed to be successful. Midwestern University (CCP) faculty's endless devotion and work ethic to educating the future of the pharmacy profession was instrumental in the training I received at Midwestern University. Dr. Patrick C. Williams '07.
