American Association of Women Podiatrists Founders Scholarship

Eligibility: Scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholarship and involvement with and contributions to the American Association of Women Podiatrists.

Eligible Disciplines: Osteopathic Medical Students Only

Program Description: Competitive scholarship offered through the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians based on financial need and letters of recommendation

Eligibility: Second, third, and fourth year osteopathic medical students who are members of ACOFP and are active with the school ACOFP Student Chapter

Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program

Eligible Disciplines: Osteopathic Medical, Certified Nurse Anesthetist (Army and Air Force ONLY), and Pharmacy Students (Air Force Only)

Program Description: Competitive scholarship offered through the Army, Navy, and Air Force based on academic performance and recommendations.

Eligibility: U.S. citizens that physically qualify must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment.

Award Amount: Full tuition and fees plus a monthly stipend of approximately $1,235. The stipend amount increases every July 1.

Renewal Information: Contracts must be renewed annually.

Condition of Award: For each year the scholarship is received, the student must agree to serve one year as a medical officer. Minimum 3 year obligation.

APMA Educational Foundation

General Scholarship

Eligible Disciplines: 3rd, and 4th year Podiatric Medical Students Only

Program Description: The scholarship shall be awarded in the fall to one or more Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program student in their third or fourth year at Midwestern University, providing that sufficient income and qualified students exist.

Eligibility: All 3rd and 4th year students attending the Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program. Preference shall be granted to students with financial need and academic excellence, who have demonstrated leadership involvement and podiatric community service.

Award Amount: Minimum level of support is $1,000.

Application information: Applications distributed to all current 3rd and 4th year students in May of each year via University email.

George E. Clark Scholarship

Eligible Disciplines: 3rd and 4th year Podiatric Medical Students Only

Program Description: APMA is the only national funding resource devoted to students of podiatric medical education.

Eligibility: All 3rd and 4th year students enrolled in the podiatric medical program.

Award Amount: Approximately $1,000/year, distributed to 6 students from each podiatric college.

Renewal Information: Contracts must be renewed annually.

Condition of Award: Available for students that are residents of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Kentucky and Georgia.

The Johnson &Johnson Wound Management Scholarship

Eligible Disciplines: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year Podiatric Medical Students Only

Program Description: The scholarship shall be awarded in the fall to one or more Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program students in their second, third, or fourth years at Midwestern University, providing that sufficient income and qualified students exist. Students may receive the Johnson &Johnson Wound Management Scholarship in more than one year. The Financial Aid Committee shall review the students qualifying for the scholarship and elect the final recipient(s).

Eligibility: All 2nd, 3rd, 4th year students attending the Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program. Preference shall be granted to a student who has demonstrated knowledge of and appreciation for the challenges of acute and chronic wound healing.

Award Amount: The scholarship may be used only for tuition, books, and other expenses directly related to the students' academic programs (housing, meals and other non-academic expenses should not be covered by the scholarship). The scholarship will not be awarded directly to students; instead, it will be used to reduce or completely cover the amount the student(s) owe(s) to the Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program for academic expenses. Johnson &Johnson leaves it to MWU to decide the amount of the award(s) and how many students will receive a scholarship annually ($1,000 for the 2005-2006 academic year).

Condition of Award: This annual scholarship for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year podiatric medical students will be given to the student who demonstrates interest and knowledge in the field of wound healing and chronic wound management.

The Greater Texas Education Foundation

Eligible Disciplines: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year Podiatric Medical Students Only

Program Description: The scholarship shall be awarded in the fall to one or more Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program students in their second, third or fourth years at Midwestern University, providing that sufficient income and qualified students exist. Students may receive the scholarship in more than one year

Eligibility: Preference shall be granted to a student who (equally weighted):

  1. Is a resident of Texas at the time of acceptance to Midwestern University or graduation from an undergraduate school in Texas.
  2. has achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  3. has demonstrated a commitment to community service
  4. is a member of the student chapter of the ACFAS
  5. has demonstrated financial hardship
Award Amount: The award amount may be used for tuition, books, and other expenses directly related to the students' academic programs (housing, meals and other non-academic expenses will not be covered by the scholarship). The scholarship should not be awarded directly to students; instead it will be used to reduce or completely cover the amount the student(s) owe(s) to the Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program for academic expenses. Eligible Disciplines: Podiatric Medical Students Only

Program Description: Financial support of podiatric medical students in order to foster and enhance the growth and stability of the profession and further improve the field of podiatric medicine.

Eligibility: Funds are distributed to students, based on financial assistance, academic record, and student involvement under a challenging podiatric medical program.

Award Amount: Three scholarships are awarded in the amount of $2,500 per award

Condition of Award: Must be a student in podiatric medicine and have a financial need, a good grade point average, and some extra-curricular activities, such as community service/school leadership or student involvement.

Hispanic Scholarship Foundation

Eligible Disciplines: All Programs

Program Description: The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the five following requirements to apply.

  • Be of Hispanic Heritage: persons descended from Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, Central American (excluding Belize), South American (excluding Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana), or other Spanish cultures
  • Be a US citizen OR legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551
  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent)
  • Be pursuing or plan to pursue your first undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Must apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000

Medtronic Physio-Control Advanced Nursing Practice

Program Description: Nurse Anesthesia scholarship offered through the Emergency Nurses Association Foundation

Award Amount: Up to $3,000

Midwestern University Institutional Scholarships

MWU Need-Based Scholarship Program

Eligible Disciplines: All Programs

Program Description: Up to $1,750,000 in institutional scholarships awarded to incoming and returning students from each of the University's five colleges with funding provided by the University's School-As-Lender program.

Eligibility: Awarded to 500 students who demonstrate the most significant financial need as determined by their Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Award Amount: $3,500

Renewal Information: Non-renewable

Deadline to Apply: Must meet MWU's priority deadline date and demonstrate high need.

Application Information: Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  The MWU Need-Based Scholarship is automatically awarded to eligible students during the awarding process.

MWU Community Service Scholarship

Eligible Disciplines: All Programs

Program Description: The MWU Community Service Scholarship was established for the benefit of students who have actively participated in community service activities. This scholarship fund was developed as a result of special fundraising income generated from community organizations.

Eligibility: Students attending the Glendale, AZ campus.

Award Amount: Three scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded per academic year to one student candidate from each of the three Colleges: AZCOM, CPG and CHS.

Shirly Ann Brysacz Memorial Scholarship

Eligible Disciplines: Osteopathic Medical Students Only

Program Description: The Shirley Ann Brysacz Memorial Scholarship has been endowed by family and friends to honor the memory of Shirley, who as a mother of four young children, supported her husband, Stanley Brysacz, during his four years at CCOM.

Eligibility: 3rd and 4th year Osteopathic medical students enrolled at the Glendale, AZ campus.

Award Amount: $2,500

Renewal Information: Must reapply annually

Condition of Award: In keeping with the memory of Shirley Ann Brysacz, this scholarship will be awarded to a third or fourth year medical student with a spouse and children and preferably with plans to practice Family Medicine in Arizona.

Award Amount: Full tuition and fees plus a monthly stipend of $1,157

Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE)

Eligible Disciplines: Glendale, Arizona Osteopathic Medical, Physician Assistant, Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, and Podiatry Students Only

Program Description: Professional student exchange program, under which legal residents of western states without a public professional school offering a Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant, or Occupational Therapy program may receive reduced tuition at MWU.

Eligibility: Incoming Osteopathic Medical students who are residents of Arizona, Montana, New Mexico, Washington, or Wyoming. Incoming Physician Assistant students who are residents of Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, or Wyoming. Incoming Pharmacy Students who are a resident of Alaska, Nevada or Hawaii.  Incoming Occupational Therapy students who are residents of Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Oregon, or Wyoming. Funding is provided only to incoming students. However, continuing students may apply if a surplus of funds exists for one program in a given award year.

Award Amount: $17,600 for Osteopathic Medical students, $14,000 for Physician Assistant students, $8,400 for Pharmacy students, and $7,133-$14,266 (depending on length of academic year) for Occupational Therapy students, for the 2007-08 academic year

Renewal Information: Must be renewed annually through state certifying officer

Deadline to Apply: In most states, the deadline for receiving completed applications for certification is October 15th of the year preceding admission. However, a few states have different deadlines or accept late applications.

Orthofix Podiatry Student Scholarship

Eligible Disciplines: Podiatric students only

Program Description: Podiatric Medicine scholarship offered through Orthofix, a company that produces highly valued, innovative and minimally invasive solutions to medical needs with a focus on the treatment of patients in orthopedics. The Financial Aid Committee shall review the students qualifying for the scholarship and elect the final recipient(s)

Eligibility: Funds are distributed to students, based on GPA (15%), leadership (10%), community service (15%), financial need (25%), and a 500 word essay on a topic in podiatric surgery (35%)

Eligible Disciplines: Undergraduate programs only.

Program Description: Established by the Arizona State Legislature to provide financial assistance awards to qualified students attending participating private postsecondary institutions to complete a baccalaureate degree.

Eligibility: Full-time undergraduate students, enrolled at the Glendale, Arizona campus.

Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation Founder's Award

Eligible Disciplines: Osteopathic Medical Students only

Program Description: Private loan fund that is interest free during in-school and internship/residency period. Loan recipients will be forgiven 20% of the loan for every year the loan recipient maintains his/her principal medical practice in one of the seven counties of southern Arizona (Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz and Yuma).

Eligibility: Osteopathic medical students who are Arizona residents, although preference is given to residents of southern Arizona.

Award Amount: $8,000 to $12,000 per year
