Curriculum: College of Dental Medicine: Arizona

The faculty are committed to curriculum innovation that includes the following:

  • move portions of the curriculum to prerequisite requirements
  • integrate foundation knowledge from prerequisite courses into clinical science courses
  • develop the curriculum based on interdisciplinary thematic units
  • initiate early clinical involvement of students
  • investigate decompression of the curriculum
  • investigate distance learning for applicable areas
  • investigate development of consortium for sharing implementation of portions of curriculum
  • develop modalities for students to learn core knowledge by taking advantage of new technology
  • develop modalities to take advantage of innovative teaching and learning methods, new varied institutional environments, and student characteristics
  • accommodate variations in individual student's learning speed and style as well as differing career objectives
  • investigate active or self-directed learning
  • investigate methods to assure relevance to future practice
  • investigate methods to recruit and train students for careers in academic dentistry
  • investigate methods to increase the inter-professional aspects of the curriculum
