In July 2010, Advanced Desert Dermatology opened their new dermatology residency training program proudly accepting their first resident.  Advanced Desert Dermatology is a family-run dermatology practice serving the Phoenix region with offices in Peoria and Anthem.  Their facilities offer the latest in dermatologic care and treatment in general dermatology, treating such common skin conditions as acne, psoriasis, and eczema, as well as Mohs surgery, which is the most effective skin cancer removal procedure available.

The methods of Mohs micrographic surgery are acknowledged by dermatology clinics nationwide as the leading and most advanced form of skin cancer therapy available.  Advanced Desert Dermatology's Program Director Vernon Mackey, D.O., is proud to be among the number of highly specialized physicians who can provide this cutting-edge treatment to patients.  Mohs surgery offers the highest cure rate for most initially untreated cancers, approaching 99%, and minimizes the loss of good tissue during surgery.  It is especially beneficial on sensitive surfaces such as the face, around the eyes, lips, and nose, as its potential for scarring is greatly decreased.

A number of cosmetic procedures are also offered at Advanced Desert Dermatology, including BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, Restylane® cosmetic filler injections, and Fraxel® laser resurfacing.

Dr. Mackey and his staff participate with the iPledge Program for the acne treatment Accutane, a program designed to lower the risk of accidental pregnancies occurring with female patients while on the medication as the chance of birth defects is significantly increased.  The program mandates routine pregnancy tests and the use of two forms of contraception while taking the acne medication.

The Advanced Desert Dermatology lab is Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) certified, and all Mohs equipment is maintained and compliant with CLIA standards.
