IL: CCOM Students Educate Local Children About Health

Healthy living was the topic of the day as seven Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) students teamed up with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society to host a Mini-Medical School for children at the Clifford Johnson Elementary School in Warrenville.

The event was held in conjunction with "National Osteopathic Medicine Week," and provided the kindergarten through third-graders with the opportunity to learn more about how the human body works and what it takes for them to stay healthy and physically fit.

The CCOM students helped staff interactive educational stations that focused on bone health, medical instruments, hygiene and germs, organs, nutrition, and exercise. The students who participated in the AOA's Mini-Medical School include:

• Kacie McMahon, MS-III
• Lisa Marie Piwoszkin, MS-II
• Linh Ngo, MS-II

The AOA represents more than 67,000 osteopathic physicians (DOs); promotes public health; encourages scientific research; serves as the primary certifying body for DOs; is the accrediting agency for osteopathic medical colleges; and has federal authority to accredit hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
