Thomas Gochenour, Pharm.D., BCPS, was named Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Pharmacy 2009 Preceptor of the Year.

Midwestern University's Chicago College of Pharmacy (CCP) named Thomas Gochenour, Pharm.D., BCPS, a pharmacist based in Oak Park, IL, as the recipient of the 2009 Preceptor of the Year Award. This award recognizes a preceptor with more than five years of experience at CCP who has made a significant contribution to pharmacy education through the mentorship of students during their final year of advanced pharmacy practice experiences.

"CCP is proud to honor Dr. Gochenour as he exemplifies excellence, professionalism, and leadership in the profession of pharmacy," said Nancy Fjortoft, Ph.D., Dean of the Chicago College of Pharmacy. "He is and has been an outstanding preceptor because he cares deeply about his patients, his students, and his profession."

Dr. Gochenour has been in community practice since the 1970's and has served as a preceptor for CCP students for more than 10 years. He resides in Riverside and practices at Rush Medical Office Building at Rush Oak Park Hospital in an outpatient pharmacy. His practice has an emphasis in three areas: hormone replacement therapy, pain management, and sports medicine. Typically, he mentors one or two students per rotation. In addition to providing a well-rounded community practice experience, Dr. Gochenour encourages his students to look beyond the facility's walls, to think about the evolution of the pharmacy profession, and to consider the future of pharmacy.

In addition to being certified by the North American Menopause Society as a Menopause Practitioner, Dr. Gochenour is one of a few community pharmacists who is board certified in pharmacotherapy. He is a leader in his field and strongly encourages new pharmacists to take leadership roles as well.
