Midwestern University’s New Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy Scheduled to Open June 2010

GLENDALE, ARIZONA (November 12, 2009)—With employment in physical therapy expected to increase much faster than average, Midwestern University plans to open a new Doctor of Physical Therapy program in June 2010. The University has submitted its application for candidacy and is seeking accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association.

In the United States, it is predicted that 41,000 new physical therapists will be required by the year 2014. In Arizona, it is projected that by 2020, 18% of the state’s population will be 65 years or older, and 23% will be 85 years or older. This aging population will require more physical therapy services; Midwestern University’s program plans to graduate 50 students per year.

MWU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will offer a full-time, continuous 36-month curriculum to prepare entry-level physical therapists to practice in a variety of settings. Graduates will be trained to provide direct patient care as well as consultation, education, critical inquiry, and health promotion.

Judy Woehrle, Ph.D., is the inaugural Director of the new program, which is now accepting applications. For more information, contact the Office of Admissions at 1-888- 247-9277, email us at admissaz@midwestern.edu, or go to www.midwestern.edu.
