IL: Spring Mini-Medical School Open to Community Members

Community members can learn about current topics in healthcare at Midwestern University's Mini-Medical School. The Mini-Medical School will be held on four consecutive Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:15 PM on April 12, April 19, April 26, and May 3, at the University's campus located at 555 31st Street in Downers Grove. The cost of the entire program is $25. Participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Topics to be covered this year include:

• Rheumatoid Arthritis - gain a basic understanding of the pathogenesis of the autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis. This class will focus on the immunological aspects of the disease progression and will also discuss newer biological therapies.
• Female Reproductive System - learn more about the basic anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system. The monthly hormonal cycle will be outlined at a basic level. The effects on the hormonal cycle on structural changes in the female reproductive organs will be discussed.
• Brain Attacks - gain information on strokes or "brain attacks." Topics will include basic brain anatomy and function, cerebral circulation, different stroke types, and a discussion of common stroke presentations.
• Panel discussion - -student representatives from the physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pharmacy programs will be panelists for a discussion on their academic degree programs at Midwestern University.
