A blog by Karen Johnson, Ph.D., Vice President of University Relations
This blog entry has nothing to do with MWU and is purely for a laugh. My elderly cat, Bailey, who is deaf and a thyroid cancer survivor, periodically goes to the groomer for a "lion's cut."
Today's guest blog comes from Karen Mattox, who is the Manager of Communications and Community Relations on the Glendale Campus. For the past decade, Karen has helped organize the Arizona Regional Brain Bee at MWU, working with our faculty coordinator Dr. Buck Jones. This event has steadily grown over the years, with many high schools from around the state competing in the contest. Here are Karen's insights on this year's event.
The tragedy yesterday at Northern Illinois University has once again brought together campuses around the country in providing support to friends and colleagues. At MWU, our thoughts and prayers are with the NIU family, and the families and loved ones of the students whose lives were lost, as we collectively grieve over this senseless act of violence. Her message is so profound and powerful, that I wanted to share it with all of you:
Midwestern University has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction for 2007. This awards program recognizes colleges and universities "for extraordinary contributions to service in their communities."
Prospective students and applicants often ask what the "typical" activities are on campus. To be honest, not being a student, I hardly ever attend any of our student events. However, I do get a daily email from our Office of Student Services in Downers Grove listing the happenings for the week. Some of them look pretty interesting. Here are the highlights:
