A blog by Karen Johnson, Ph.D., Vice President of University Relations
As avid readers of this blog will know, I love watching medical TV shows. Since the season is now half over (and, hopefully the writers' strike in Hollywood will be resolved so we will have another half to watch), I thought I'd share my reviews of my favorite shows.
Rain in Arizona is truly a rare occurrence. It's the desert, for goodness' sake. For years, we have hosted our annual Glendale Campus White Coat Ceremony outdoors, near the reflecting ponds. This year, it rained.
In the United States today, more than half of all people wear glasses or contact lenses. To address this need in Arizona, the Midwestern University Board of Trustees recently approved the development of a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) program on the University’s Glendale Campus. The new program, slated to open in Fall 2009, will be the only optometry program in the state, and only one of 18 in the country.
While our students were taking their final exams last week, both MWU campuses celebrated with our annual Thanksgiving brunches. In addition to good food and fellowship, these events symbolize an important value at our University: the simple act of saying "thank you."
In the past few weeks, MWU launched its annual direct marketing campaign for prospective students. The theme for the campaign is "Want to Treat Patients?" and this appears prominently in both the email and the postcards. If you did receive the email or postcard, I'm interested in your feedback.
