On May 7, MWU's Downers Grove Campus hosted a hands-on health science day for the students of Daniel Hale Williams Preparatory School of Medicine, located in Chicago. CCOM is the school's official medical school partner. About 35 MWU medical, pharmacy, and PA students took time out of their day to assist the 7th and 8th graders on their special field trip.
Two of the best things about Midwestern University are the great locations of our campuses. This spring, our hometowns have seen their basketball teams win their way into the second round of the NBA playoffs and a local girl make it to the final four of American Idol.
As previous readers of this blog will note, I love medical TV shows. Hence, it was with much anticipation that I stayed up late last night to watch the special two-hour Grey's Anatomy, which featured the planned spinoff show featuring Dr. Addison Montgomery (formerly Shepherd) joining a new practice in LA. Did you watch it? What'd you think?
This spring, we have started a wetlands restoration project at the entryway to our Downers Grove Campus. For those of you who have visited the campus, you will recall that we have a beautiful location nestled adjacent to the Lyman Woods Forest Preserve. Next time you visit, you will see that we now have a beautiful nature walkway at the entrance to campus.
Today, the MWU academic family joined with the family of Dr. Kenneth Suarez to celebrate his life. Dr. Suarez died last Sunday, after fighting a courageous battle against cancer. For the entire 35-year span of his career, he served the students, faculty, and administration of MWU and CCOM. Hundreds of friends, family members, and colleagues packed the auditorium to hear stories of his life, to laugh, to cry, and to remember our dear friend.
