A blog by Karen Johnson, Ph.D., Vice President of University Relations
Last evening, we hosted a special reception and tour for CCOM alumni at the Body Worlds II Exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. The show was great, but my favorite part was the drive home via Lakeshore Drive.
This past Monday was our annual Chippin' in for Students Golf Outing for the MWU Glendale Campus. More than 100 golfers joined us for an afternoon at the Arrowhead Country Club, raising funds for student scholarships. One of the special features of this year's outing was that the club's teaching pros were at the putting green and driving range offering tips and lessons. I made the mistake of asking the teaching pro to help me correct my slice on my drives. He taught me a new swing that, indeed, fixed my slice. However, the awkward swing also caused me to pull a muscle in my neck. So, off to the OMM Clinic I went.
Midwestern University continues to establish a strong presence in the Phoenix valley. We are now truly well known in the health care, legislative, academic, and corporate communities. Our programs continue to expand and improve; our students are able to pursue more clinical opportunities; and our alumni are establishing a reputation for excellence in their careers. I am pleased to report on three new initiatives in this blog entry to highlight the continued growth and development of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Certainly the sunshine and great weather (in every season but summer) are some of the draws of living in Arizona. Spring is especially beautiful, with the mornings and evenings still comfortably cool and sunshine and warmth during the days. One of my favorite activities this time of year is hiking with my two dogs.
Today's entry comes from my--and probably your--favorite guest blogger, Marcia Faye, Manager of Editorial Projects for the Downers Grove Campus. She writes about four CCOM students (two of whom are now alumni) who published a study guide for the board exams. These students were all fellows in CCOM's prestigious Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Fellowship Program, evidence of their special expertise in both the topic of OMM and the ability to teach. The OMM Fellowship Program provides exceptional students the ability to extend their training in OMM while participating in the OMM teaching program and research efforts.
