Match Day AZCOM students and their families show off their residency match information on Match Day.

As students from osteopathic medical schools across the nation discovered their near-term futures on Match Day, many of AZCOM's Class of 2017 were thrilled to discover that they would remain in Arizona for their residencies.

For example, a group of eight AZCOM students, including Jessica Pringle, were elated to find that they matched to Maricopa Medical Center, and a camera crew from Maricopa Integrated Health Systems was on campus at 9:00AM local time to capture the moment when they opened their match envelopes. Ms. Pringle, holding her two-week old baby Mia, found that she had matched to her top specialty choice, Emergency Medicine.

"I'm really excited about it," she said, fighting back tears. "It was my top choice. I didn't think I was going to get in."

Along with almost 40 other Class of 2017 students who matched in-state, Ms. Pringle and her peers represent a real boon for Arizona healthcare, one which has potential long-term benefits for the state. AZCOM statistics show that over 95% of its students from Arizona who match to in-state residencies remain here to practice - a key metric for a state experiencing physician shortages.
