The Multispecialty Clinic on the Glendale Campus opened a Physical Therapy Institute in October as a new service for patients. Patients will receive one-on-one, individualized treatments based on a thorough assessment of underlying movement or neuromuscular problems, along with home exercises and instruction in functional activities to maximize their involvement in treatment.
This comprehensive outpatient physical therapy center highlights the expertise of the Midwestern University physical therapy faculty, including chronic pain management, and will provide an exceptional educational opportunity for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) students at the University as they help patients return to the highest level of function and wellness possible through evidenced-based practice, compassion, and outstanding service.
Treatments include posture training, body mechanics, joint mobilization/manipulation, soft tissue mobilization, strengthening, flexibility, coordination training, gait training, relaxation/meditation, specialized chronic pain treatments, and implementation of strategies to improve movement to meet each person's unique movement demands in life. Experienced physical therapists will be able to diagnose and treat back and neck pain, joint pain and dysfunction, post-surgical orthopedic conditions, and sports injuries.
Mark Kargela, D.P.T., PT, OCS, FAAOMPT, Clinical Assistant Professor, will provide care and oversee the Institute's development. Dr. Kargela earned his Master of Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University and his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in St. Augustine, Florida. He completed a fellowship in orthopedic manual physical therapy and a therapeutic pain specialist certification focusing on evidence-based care of chronic pain conditions. Dr. Kargela brings extensive physical therapy expertise to Midwestern, including recent experience working at the Mayo Clinic.
