Midwestern University Speech-Language Pathology Students celebrate their first place victory in College Bowl tournament.

Midwestern University Speech-Language Pathology faculty and students from the Downers Grove Campus were among the more than 1,500 in attendance at the annual Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association convention in Rosemont, IL.

Midwestern students participated in several sessions planned to prepare them for graduation and employment.  Sessions included "Jobs 101," "Credentials Ready," and the 10th Annual College Bowl. Tomei Ball (CHS-Downers Grove SPL 2020), Tanja Noren (CHS-Downers Grove SLP 2020), Marisa Hollems (CHS-Downers Grove SPL 2019), and Alyssa Mazurek (CHS-Downers Grove SLP 2019) comprised the four-person team from Midwestern University. Each student on the team responded to questions independently and totals were tallied for the team. The questions were based on those asked as part of the Praxis Exam.

The Midwestern University team captured first place and are the first to earn that honor since Midwestern has participated in the competition. They were awarded the College Bowl trophy until next year's competition, a plaque, and bragging rights. The students on the team will also have the fee for their Praxis Exam paid.

In addition, Kim Hoffer, M.A., CCC-SLP (CHS-Downers Grove) Director of Clinical Education and Associate Professor, was honored at the conference for outstanding service to the profession and the state of Illinois and was awarded an ISHA Fellowship.
