  • PharmAcademy Introduces High School Students to Pharmacy Careers

    PharmAcademy is an event held by the College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove (CPDG) at Midwestern University to inform high school students about various aspects of a pharmacy career, as they contemplate their future college options. The event was attended by 39 students from Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, and held under the direction of Sheila Wang, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCIDP, Professor, Pharmacy Practice at the College of Pharmacy.

  • Midwestern University Students Earn Prestigious Community Service Fellowships

    Three Midwestern University students have been selected for the distinguished Schweitzer Fellowship. As part of this year-long service-learning initiative, the students will craft and complete service projects aimed at tackling the healthcare challenges faced by marginalized communities in the Chicago area. Medical student Julia Kavanagh (Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine ’26) will partner with LYDIA Home to address the poor health outcomes of children in the foster care system. Dental medicine student Paige Madden (College of Dental Medicine-Illinois ’25) will work to make sure that senior citizens in our community benefit from preventative healthcare. Medical student Chirag Shah (Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine ’26) will create a medical literacy program that serves non-English speaking residents and provide information on accessing healthcare and understanding individual health.

  • Preschool Language Programs Benefit Community

    As part of its service to the community, Midwestern University’s Speech-Language Institute offers biweekly programs for children experiencing issues with developmental language, such as delays with speech and articulation. The Little Sprouts program is offered to children between the ages of two and three, and the Shining Stars program is offered to children between the ages of three and five. Six Midwestern University students in the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Program are involved in the programs. Each student is assigned two children to target specific speech and language goals, and the students are supervised by Cindy Krizizke, M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinical Assistant Professor, Speech-Language Pathology.

  • Research Awards, Opportunities, M.B.S. Program Assist Student Career Goals

    Shuaa Rizvi (AZCOM ’27) graduated from Midwestern University’s M.B.S. program on the Downers Grove Campus and is continuing her education in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) Program at the Glendale Campus. Shuaa was the recipient of three awards for research during her M.B.S. studies, the Honor B. Fell Award (research achievements of graduate student research), the SIVB Student Travel Award (student achievements in In Vitro Biology), and a first place award for her presentation of “Identification of Stratifin as a Potential Biomarker for Oral Cancer Progression.”

  • Movement Therapy at Midwestern University Clinics Assist Patients with Mobility

    Around 60 million adults suffer from arthritis, and it is the number one cause of disability in the United States, according to the Arthritis Foundation. Through Midwestern University’s Physical Therapy (PT) Institute, patients suffering from arthritis can receive movement therapy to increase mobility, manage pain, and improve their quality of life.

  • Midwestern University’s Middle Eastern Pharmacists Association Marks 10 Years of Service to Community

    Since its establishment in 2013, the Middle Eastern Pharmacists Association (MePA) on the Downers Grove Campus of Midwestern University has made a significant impact on the community. More than 400 students have volunteered their services, conducting free community health screenings and organizing educational events, benefiting nearly 1,200 patients. Sally Arif, Pharm.D., BCPS, Professor, Pharmacy Practice, College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove, serves as the founding advisor for MePA.

    The annual Midwestern University Chippin’ in for Students Golf Classic was held at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton, IL, where more than 100 scholarship donors and Midwestern University faculty, students, and staff attended and participated in a friendly game of golf with the goal of raising funds for student scholarships.

  • High School Students Experience Aspects of Dentistry with Midwestern University Students, Faculty

    High school students attended the Pathways to Dentistry, a dental student camp offered by the College of Dental Medicine – Illinois (CDMI) in conjunction with Comfort Dental Studio in Chicago under the direction of Lawrence White D.M.D. Dr. White said this program was a way to bring historically underrepresented students into the field of dentistry.
