Tell us about your path towards medicine.

I got my nursing degree in 2014 and have worked in Post-Intensive Nursing, Cardiovascular ICU, and most recently in Cardiovascular OR at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis for the last two years. I love that area of work, and I decided that I wanted to continue my education and become a Perfusionist through the CVS Program at Midwestern.

What made you choose Midwestern University?

I chose Midwestern because the students who did their clinicals from Midwestern at Abbott were some of the most confident, technically skilled, and knowledgeable of anyone. After learning that several of our perfusionists had come from Midwestern and discussing it with them, it was clear to me that the CVS Program’s reputation was unmatched.

What is it like entering the healthcare profession during a global pandemic?

It is certainly a strange time to be in healthcare, but I am not that worried about it. Having been working in the OR when the first round hit in Minnesota I am fairly comfortable with it now.

What are you most excited about going forward?

I am excited to be a student again after being in the workforce for the last eight years, learning new things and building up the foundations I have from nursing. I hope to be able to use my experience and knowledge from the past and enhance those with the expertise of the faculty of the CVS Program.
