General Information

Institutional History And Accreditation

Midwestern University was founded in 1900 as the American College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery. The school became the Chicago College of Osteopathy before renaming again to Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1970. The college moved from its original location in Chicago to Downers Grove, Illinois, in 1983. With the founding of additional colleges, the institution was unified under the new name of Midwestern University in 1993, with the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine continuing as a founding college. The campus in Glendale, Arizona, was opened in 1996.

Midwestern University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (230 South LaSalle Street, Suite 7-500, Chicago, IL 60604-1413; 800-621-7440; www.higherlearningcommission.org).

Please refer to the specific college sections of the Midwestern University Course Catalog for further information on program and professional accreditation.

Preclinical, clinical blocks, rotations, and reflective portfolio courses which do not conform to these quarters are indicated separately on the transcript.

Course credit is expressed in quarter credit units.

Transfer and Advanced Placement Credit Notations

Names of transfer institutions attended by the student are noted with the number of quarter credits/units accepted from each. A transcript notation also appears when a student is granted advanced placement toward graduation based on previous coursework or accomplishments.

Transcript Validation

Official paper transcripts are printed on light blue security paper with a dark blue border. The MIDWESTERN UNIVERISTY name appears in small print across the entire page. The paper's watermark reads VERIFY FIRST when held to the light. Green and brown fibers can be seen embedded throughout the paper. When photocopied, the words COPY COPY COPY should appear across the face of the copy. In the lower right corner, the official signature of the Registrar appears in white on a light blue background and should disappear when warmed by touch or breath. In the top right corner, the word VALID will appear when the fingerprint icon is warmed by touch or breath.

Official electronic transcripts are issued directly by Parchment Exchange as a digitally signed PDF. Only accept a transcript and accompanying documents when downloaded directly from Parchment Exchange, and only after the secure digital certificate on the PDF is verified as being issued by GlobalSign CA for Adobe and certified by Midwestern University. Other documents included in the same PDF, such as copies of diplomas, may be treated as authentic when the digital certificate is valid. Please contact the Office of the Registrar for any questions regarding electronic transcript validation.

GRADE POINT CALCULATION

All colleges and programs are graded on an A-F 4.0 grading scale. Multiply each course credit by the numeric value of the grade awarded to calculate quality points ("QPTS"). Divide the quality points by the calculated credits earned ("earned") to calculate GPA.

A-
3.67 3.75
B+
3.33 3.25
