Master the Skill and Science of Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry - Dr. David Alleman
Over the last 15 years, there has been a steady evolution in the restorative approach with a progression from mechanical retention to advanced adhesion. Collectively, the science, principles, and techniques of advanced adhesive dentistry is known as Biomimetic Dentistry. At its core, the biomimetic approach respects the simple philosophy that we must “mimic life” and understand the natural tooth in its entirety to adequately restore teeth.
Naturally, conserving more of the intact tooth is paramount to this approach, and pairs perfectly with adhesion. The need for mechanical retention, and excessive preparation for full coverage restorations is eliminated. Properly applied, adhesion is best able to preserve marginal integrity and prevent leakage and gaps. Additionally, the adhesively restored tooth is best able to handle and manage functional stresses similarly to the intact natural tooth. As a result, the biomimetically restored tooth eliminates gaps under restorations and cracks into dentin that develop as a result of deformation and stress concentrations. Post-operative pain and sensitivity are eliminated, and vitality is preserved as bacteria are not able to invade and kill the pulp.

About Dr. Alleman:
Dr. David Alleman has been practicing dentistry for 32 years since his graduation from the University of the Pacific in 1978. The first three were in the US navy and the last 29 years in Utah. In 1995, he started studying adhesive dentistry with Dr. Ray Bertolotti. In 1999, he started studying with Dr. John Kois.
These two mentors guided him through a 10- year/10,000 hour review of the literature on which advanced adhesive (Biomimetic) dentistry is based. Other mentors and collaborators are Dr. Gary Unterbrink, Dr. Didier Dietschi, Dr. Pascal Magne and Dr. Geoff Knight.

CBCT: Introduction to Applications and Interpretation - Dr. Vijay Parashar
This CBCT presentation will discuss how Cone Beam CT imaging has revolutionized imaging of the maxillofacial region. Dentists who are current users, or who are considering using CBCT imaging and wish to strengthen their knowledge in the application and benefits of CBCT will gain helpful insights from this presentation.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will be better able to:
1. List various applications of CBCT imaging.
2. Recognize advantages of CBCT vs. Intra Oral/Panoramic imaging.
3. Understand capabilities of various FOVs - advantages and limitations.
4. Identify radiographic anatomy and common variations of normal maxillofacial anatomy.
5. Identify 3-D appearance of common pathology.
About Dr. Parashar:
Dr. Parashar, a Diplomat of American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology received D.D.S. from University of Detroit Mercy, Master of Dental Science and Certification in Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology from University of Connecticut. He received Howard R. Raper Award and William H. Rollins Award for Research from the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. He has served as Chair of Oral Radiology section of American Dental Education Association and ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Oral Radiology Review Committee. He is serving on National Dental Board Test Construction Committee, and is a CODA Site Visitor.

Methods Materials and Madness - Dr. Michael Fling
Various materials, preparation and impression techniques are available to the restorative dentist. This presentation looks at the choices of prep design and material selection that are becoming mainstream. It evaluates popular restorative materials, preparation design and impression techniques to expose if their use is founded in fact or fiction. You will be exposed to bonding techniques and have an understanding for determining what is best for a given clinical situation.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will be better able to:
1. Understand the literature regarding popular materials for veneers and full coverage crowns
2. Review which generation of bonding materials is best
3. Indication for Emax vs zirconia vs metal
4. Condition of the laboratory technician industry
5. Digital impressions and milled models vs in office-milled restorations.
6. Understand the madness in reality vs expectation for given materials
7. The future in the fabrication of restorations
About Dr. Fling:
Dr. Michael Fling is a dentist, an educator, an author and an artist. He says that the secret to his success is “bridging the gap between knowing and doing”. He uses this secret to further the success of those around him by inspiring them to excellence.
He began his career in dentistry in 1976 as a laboratory technician. While maintaining a private practice with an emphasis on aesthetic and restorative dentistry, he has served as Course Director and as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at the O.U. College of Dentistry. He now serves as an Associate Professor and the Director in the Department of Advanced Restorative Dentistry. He is the founder and President of Fling Seminars, delivering stimulating advanced dental education and motivation to dental teams and technicians around the world. He has been named by Dentistry Today as one of the “Top Clinicians in Continuing Education” every year since 2005. He serves at the L.D. Pankey Institute as a Essentials Director and is part of a select handful that has completed the process to earn the distinction as a “Pankey Scholar”. He also serves as a member of their Board of Advisors. He is a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry. His passion is motivating change to improve the quality of life for those he touches.

Cancellation and Refund Information:
The Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Arizona Continuing Dental Education (MWUCDM-AZ CDE) office reserves the right to end registration when the enrollment limit is reached and to cancel, modify or alter content, faculty or location for any course if circumstances indicate such a change is advisable. If the MWUCDM-AZ CDE finds it necessary to cancel a course, a full refund will be issued. No travel expenses will be refunded to the registrant in the event of course cancellation or cancellation of any registration. Full tuition refunds are issued if the participant cancels in writing two weeks prior to a course. Cancellations processed during the two weeks prior to course date will be refunded tuition minus a late cancellation fee of $75. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received three days prior to the day of the course or in the event of a no-show. Select courses may have individually specific cancellation fees and polices. A $50 fee will be assessed for all returned payments. Returned payments include returned checks and dishonored credit or debit card payments.
