About

In 2004, Dr. Burns served as an adjunct faculty while maintaining a busy clinical anesthesia practice. She transitioned to part-time faculty serving as the assistant director of the nurse anesthesia program until 2010 when she was appointed program director. In 2016, she designed and launched Midwestern University's first distance education program: Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). 

A nurse for more than 45 years, Dr. Burns is a retired U.S. Air Force major.
