Faculty Advisor Program

Chicago College of Pharmacy

The Chicago College of Pharmacy assigns a faculty advisor to students in each entering class whose role is to assist with academic and nonacademic concerns. In addition to these faculty advisors, staff in the College Office of the Dean and the Dean of Students, as well as other faculty members and staff, are also available to assist students with academic advising, counseling, professional enrichment activities, and nonacademic problems. Students are assigned a faculty advisor selected from the College faculty. Students will likely have the same advisor throughout their academic careers.

During orientation, advisors meet their new students in groups of approximately 10 students. These groups may serve as the workshop groups for courses within the curriculum. Faculty advisors act as liaisons between the faculty and students. Their responsibilities include:

  1. Serving as the student's advisor and academic/professional counselor.
  2. Overseeing and monitoring the academic progress and professional growth of the student.
  3. Assisting the student in seeking academic and personal counseling services provided by the institution.
  4. Serving as an advocate for the student.
  5. Counseling the student during his/her selection of a career within the pharmacy profession.
  6. Reviewing students' reflective portfolio.
