Student Research

At UGA, I took several summer students, which led to peer-reviewed publications (below).  I have also supervised about a dozen undergraduate students in research, many of which have resulted in peer-reviewed publications.  I received a Research Mentor Award from the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities.

My usual method of working with a student is to have them select a prospective research project as well as a retrospective or survey project. Since not all prospective projects Work Out, the backup project increases the likelihood that they will have a publication at the end of their time with me.  Sometimes both work out (as for Vance A, below), sometimes only the prospective (Zapata M, below), sometimes only the retrospective/survey (Burns B, below).  Students learn proper research methodology, understand the process of research, and experience the demands of writing and publication.

If you are interested in meeting with me, we will discuss the projects I have which I believe can be completed in a reasonable time frame, are not expensive to conduct, and are likely to lead to a publication.
