What inspired you to pursue a healthcare career?
I have always wanted to help people and my favorite classes were biology and anatomy. I also feel that healthcare is such a vital part of our society, so I was compelled to pursue healthcare in some capacity. It wasn’t until later in undergrad that I felt optometry was the modality I wanted to pursue.
How did your background and history factor into your career choice?
I have other family members who are also in the healthcare field. They helped me realize how rewarding it can be to work in the healthcare field. Optometry has a unique place in healthcare because of the instantaneous gratification you can provide someone by simply correcting their visual perception.
Why did you decide to attend Midwestern University?
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of Midwestern during my interview. It became naturally comforting throughout the tour and by the end, it was somewhere I felt I could call home.
What about a Midwestern University education do you want to carry forward in your career?
I wish to keep pursuing a multi-specialty and inter-professional approach to patient care. I was able to see this approach on my rotations. All of the patient’s needs were addressed at the community health center, which made for overall better patient satisfaction and compliance.
