Two students from Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) and their faculty mentors received top honors at a recent research poster competition. The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) held its annual poster competition at their conference in New Orleans. Approximately 140 posters were entered in the competition and three first place prizes were awarded.
Among the first place winners were:
- Sandeep (Sunny) Lakhan, MS-III (CCOM), for the poster, "MDM2 function in osteoblasts and its upregulation by 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3"
Faculty Mentor: Nalini Chandar, Ph.D.
- Gary Tan, MS-III (CCOM), for the poster, "Phorbol ester-induced monocytic differentiation of HL-60 leukemia cells is associated with alterations in Cul5 protein expression"
Faculty Mentor: Michael Fay, Ph.D.
All students who submitted posters for the competition earned valuable experience presenting their research at a national conference and benefitted from being able to work side-by-side with leading researchers in a variety of disciplines.
