Classes started on Monday, August 10th for 487 new MWU students, including 254 in the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) and 33 in the Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program (AZPod) on the Glendale Campus, and 200 students in the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) on the Downers Grove Campus.
Throughout the prior week, these future health care professionals attended orientation events on both campuses to meet their deans, faculty, and fellow students, as well as purchase books, learn about campus club opportunities, and take care of other business to get ready for classes. Bagel breakfasts, study skills workshops, and a friendly welcome from MWU President and CEO Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., were also on the agenda.
As a unique get-to-know-you event, students from both AZCOM and CCOM also visited their respective local art museums (Phoenix Art Museum: "Learning to Observe" and the Art Institute of Chicago: "The Discerning Eye") for a fun introduction to the critical observation skills that are so important for their future patient interactions as physicians.
