IL: Annual “Groovin’ in the Grove” Race Set for Mother’s Day Weekend

The annual Groovin’ in the Grove 5K Run and Fun Walk attracts participants of all ages and abilities.

Kick off Mother's Day weekend by participating in the 23rd annual "Groovin' in the Grove" 5K Run and Fun Walk, coordinated by the Sports Medicine Club of Midwestern University on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Midwestern University, 555 31st Street, Downers Grove, IL.

The rain or shine race is a great family event and open to all interested participants. The race is designed for people of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels. Start time for 5K Run/Walk participants is 9:00 am. Children are also welcome to participate in separate events, including 1K and ½ K races and a 100-yard dash starting at around 10:00 am. Race-day registration and packet pick-up opens at 7:30 am. Pre-race packet pick-up is available from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 8th and Wednesday, May 9th at Dick Pond Athletics, 2775 Maple Ave, Lisle, IL 60532.

In addition to the run/walk, there will be refreshments, raffle prizes, pre- and post-race massages, a moon jump, and other entertainment. The first mom to cross the finish line will be recognized in addition to prize money ($100/$60/$40) for the top three male and female overall winners. All moms who run or walk will receive a flower. Tech shirts will be provided for all pre-registered runners and there will be age-group awards and medals for all participants in the kids' races.

Race day registration is $35 and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Sharing Connections Furniture Bank in Downers Grove. Registration and more information can be found online at or on the race website at
