Theresa M. Matzura, D.O., FACOI, recently received the 2009 Internist of the Year Award from the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI). Dr. Matzura is the Program Director for Internal Medicine Residency at Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, and is responsible for providing leadership, clinical experience, and guidance to student doctors, residents, and fellows.

The national award is based on a physician's performance as a clinician, administrator, and educator. The award cites Dr. Matzura's excellent example and conduct as a role model for medical students and notes her ongoing commitment to medical care, education, and service. Dr. Matzura is a board-certified cardiologist at the St. James Heart and Vascular Institute in Olympia Fields.

The ACOI is a national organization striving to advance the practice of osteopathic internal medicine and enhance members' professional and personal development. Dr. Matzura received the award during the annual ACOI convention in October in Tucson, Arizona.
