Midwestern University invites local children and their families to the Reading Rockstars community event on Saturday, May 2nd from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at the University's campus at 555 31st Street, Downers Grove, IL.

The Reading Rockstars event will promote literacy for children ages three- to eight-years-old with interactive games, educational booths, and fun learning activities. Organized by the University's Speech-Language Pathology Program and the MWU Chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, children will have the opportunity to explore various fun activities designed to improve their language and literacy skills. In addition, Mother Goose will make a special appearance and perform some of her stories and rhymes.

Speech-language pathologists often work as part of an educational team to determine a child's reading readiness and can provide therapy to improve their language, speech, and literacy skills. In addition, Speech-language pathologists can identify various communication disorders and provide the help that children need to be academically successful. This free event is open to the community. Participants can also elect to donate a new or gently used children's book.
