Runners gather at Midwestern University for the start of the annual St. Jude Chicago to Peoria Run to benefit childhood cancer research.

Midwestern University recently welcomed a group of dedicated runners who set off from the Downers Grove Campus for the annual St. Jude Chicago to Peoria run. The relay-style run raises funds for children battling cancer and other catastrophic diseases and is part of a nationwide effort to support the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the largest childhood cancer research center in the world.

This is the 14th year that Midwestern University has hosted the start of the run to downtown Peoria, located approximately 30 hours by foot and 160 miles southwest of the campus. Since 1982, the runs have raised more than $28 million for research and to aid children undergoing treatment at St. Jude. This year, the Chicago to Peoria Run raised more $235,000 for the St. Jude's kids.

Midwestern University's support of the St. Jude run is another example of a University-wide commitment to community service.
