A dedicated group of runners set off August 2, 2013 from the Midwestern University Campus in Downers Grove to run nearly160 miles to Peoria, IL in an effort to help battle childhood illnesses. This marks the 15th year that Midwestern University has hosted the kick-off of the annual St. Jude Chicago to Peoria relay-style run which raises funds for children fighting cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

The run is part of a nationwide effort to support the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the largest childhood cancer research center in the world. Since 1982, the runs have raised more than $28 million for research and assistance to children undergoing treatment at St. Jude. Last year, the Chicago to Peoria Run raised more $235,000 for the St. Jude's kids.

Midwestern University's support of the St. Jude run is another example of a University-wide commitment to community service. For the past six years, the University has earned a spot on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, a national recognition awarded to colleges and universities committed to bettering their communities through service and service learning.
