AZ: Midwestern University Names New Dean for the College of Dental Medicine-Arizona

Midwestern University is pleased to announce that P. Bradford Smith, D.D.S., has been promoted to Dean for the College of Dental Medicine-Arizona on the Glendale Campus, succeeding Russell Gilpatrick, D.D.S., who will retire on July 1, 2015.

Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern University, has thanked and credited Dr. Gilpatrick for his outstanding leadership since 2009, as he helped shepherd CDMA to full accreditation and developed an innovative and effective curriculum that incorporated the state-of-the-art Midwestern University Dental Institute. Dr. Gilpatrick will remain with the College until July to mentor Dr. Smith and ensure a smooth transition.

Dr. Smith has served in leadership roles for the College since 2008, most recently as Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Preclinical Sciences. He has been the faculty advisor for the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) in 2008 and 2009 and the faculty mentor for the Academy of LDS Dentists student chapter. Dr. Smith completed scholarly work at the Costin Institute for Health Professionals and graduated as a Costin Scholar in September of 2010. He has received the ASDA faculty member of the year award in 2009 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 from the student body at Midwestern.

Dr. Smith earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1983 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 1986. After serving as an Adjunct Professor and Clinical Instructor at the U.O.P. extramural clinic in Sacramento for two years, Dr. Smith moved to Sacramento, California where he practiced for 22 years.
