Midwestern University recently received a Partnership Award from the Downers Grove Fire Department in appreciation for the use of campus facilities for training purposes. The award was presented at the November 17th Village Council Meeting. Members of the Council and those in attendance also viewed a short video highlighting the training exercises the fire and police crews were able to conduct in dormitories scheduled for demolition on the Downers Grove Campus.

"Through its generous partnership with the Downers Grove Fire Department, Midwestern University provided an important training opportunity by allowing the Downers Grove Fire Department, as well as the Downers Grove Police Department, to utilize dorm rooms slated for demolition to perform live fire training as well as tactical operations training," said Jeffery Pindelski, Deputy Downers Grove Fire Chief, who presented the award. "Over 700 training hours were logged due to this opportunity. This type of training allows firefighters to experience real-world scenarios in a controlled environment and provides valuable experiences that allow firefighters to do their job in a safer and more efficient manner. The Downers Grove Fire Department is grateful to have had this opportunity," said Deputy Chief Pindelski.

In addition to the local firefighters and police officers, more than 500 participants from other fire departments, the Ohio State Police Crime Lab, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) took part in the training. Midwestern University has a long tradition of working closely with the local police and fire departments and has previously hosted other training exercises on the 105-acre campus.
