AZ: New Associate Dean Joins College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Carla Gartrell

Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, Midwestern University, is pleased to announce the appointment of Carla Gartrell, D.V.M., J.D., DACVIM, as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the College of Veterinary Medicine. 

Dr. Gartrell is a board-certified veterinary internist, licensed attorney, and scholar with a strong background in academia, private enterprise, and the animal healthcare industry. She joins Midwestern University after six years with Hill's Pet Nutrition in various capacities. Dr. Gartrell previously served as Chief of Medicine at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Cary, NC, and as an assistant professor at Michigan State University.

Dr. Gartrell received her bachelor's and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Tuskegee University in Alabama. She served an internship in small animal medicine at the University of Tennessee and an internal medicine residency at Michigan State. In 2009, Dr. Gartrell received her Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar Association in 2011.
