Preceptor Training and Resources
Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale offers different programs to help train their preceptors.
We partner with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) to offer you a program entitled "Community Pharmacist Preceptor Education Program". The program is sponsored by Merck & Co., Inc. Although the program is entitled the "Community Pharmacist", it is applicable to all practice sites. We offer a workbook which includes tear-out sheets to help you document your thoughts and covers a variety of topics. Additional information may be found online at http://www.aphanet.org, http://www.pharmacist.com or http://www.nacdsfoundation.org.
The Pharmacist's Letter offers teaching resources for busy preceptors at the Preceptor Training and Resource Network at www.pharmacistsletter.com/ptrn. You can access targeted live and home-based preceptor continuing education, experiential teaching tools and sample assignments, a library of journal club materials to use for student discussion sessions, and a preceptors' discussion board to interact with other preceptors.
Preceptor training sessions will also be conducted onsite by the Office of Experiential Education prior to Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences in the Summer and again in the Fall.
If you have any questions or comments regarding any issues while the students are on rotation with you, please don't ever hesitate to call our office to speak with any of the OEE staff.
